Benefits & Perks
The Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute provides an impressive package valued at $175,000 in the first year of the program. A second-year package valued at $150,000 is also available.
Core Benefits
Runway award: We provide a package valued at $175,000 that includes a salary and housing allowance for the Startup Postdoc ($80,000 per year), a research budget ($20,000 per year), one-time IP registration and use ($25,000), free access to all Cornell Library publications, classes, and workshops on entrepreneurship and business management, and numerous other benefits (valued at $50,000 per year). Your research budget can be used as you see fit: To pay employees or consultants or to purchase equipment — it’s up to you.
Business education: We kick off the program with “Startup MBA,” an intensive education program teaching entrepreneurship and business concepts. We’ll discuss how to identify and evaluate product/market opportunities, develop customers, create a startup strategy, and face uncertainty. Additional classes include product management, pitching and public speaking, fundraising, and more.
Mentorship: We’ve assembled an amazing team of mentors uniquely suited to help you succeed.
Community: Starting a company can be a lonely business. You’ll come to deeply value the camaraderie and relationships you’ll develop with your fellow Startup Postdocs. Runway includes access to a shared working space, weekly cohort meetings called Scrums, and monthly social events with inspiring people. You’ll share and receive advice, feedback, resources, and support from one another, and you might make great friends along the way. You will also get a chance to be a part of the Cornell and Technion communities, which can contribute significantly to your personal and professional growth, as well as access to the NYC tech and entrepreneurship ecosystem.
Office space and support: Runway will provide a workspace at the Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute, part of the Cornell Tech campus. You can also access meeting rooms, office equipment and administrative support.
Equipment: You’ll be able to use standard office equipment (computer, printer, etc.) and access our maker lab, which includes equipment such as 3-D manufacturing tools, 3-D printers, and laser cutters.
I receive amazing support from the Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute in terms of resources, connections and knowledge to translate scientific research into products. They are open minded, progressive thinkers who truly want to empower new entrepreneurs.
