Project Baala is a Delhi and Mumbai based organisation working on innovative menstrual health solutions primarily in rural India, Nepal, Ghana and Tanzania. Led by Cornell and Warwick University alumni, Baala has directly benefited over 8,50,000 women and girls in the past five years. Our pads which are usable for two years, innovative dissemination of menstrual awareness, entrepreneurship model, and extensive research has allowed us to effectively solve problems of: (a) Access and affordability of menstrual products (b) Environmental pollution caused by non-biodegradable menstrual waste (c) Undignified practices and beliefs due to menstrual myths and taboos Baala has prevented 150,000,000 (150 million!) non-biodegradable sanitary napkins from entering landfills and remodelled behaviours in over 8,50,000 households. This is through conducting workshops and distributing over 25,00,000 reusable sanitary napkins across 32 states and Union Territories of India and pockets of Nepal, Tanzania and Ghana. Our focus has always been on developing solutions and innovating in the space of menstrual health and we have a basket of solutions that integrate technology and research.
