[MUSIC PLAYING] DAN HUTTENLOCHER: Cornell Tech is the first campus built for the digital age. And by that we mean we're bringing together a set of academic disciplines that are critical to the development of digital technologies. We're really thinking about how digital technology transforms the world around us. [MUSIC PLAYING] MARYANNE GILMARTIN: The Tata Innovation Center is the first of its kind, in that it is designed to encourage collaboration and innovation. DAN HUTTENLOCHER: The Tata Innovation Center is the physical embodiment of what Cornell Tech is all about. It's about bridging between academia and the commercial world and the nonprofit world, bringing all of those different kinds of players together to work together on a better digital future. MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG: We see that many of the most iconic tech companies are created where people go to school. And we want new technologies, products and businesses to be created right here in New York. Tata Consultancy Services is a global company with a rich tradition of technology and research, in other words, the perfect company to help us realize the vision of Cornell Tech. The Tata Innovation Center takes that idea to a whole new level by literally bringing students, entrepreneurs, and tech companies under the same roof. The companies and innovations spawned by Cornell Tech graduates, like the Tata Innovation Center, will generate jobs for people across the economic spectrum and will reinforce New York City's global competitiveness. MARTHA E. POLLACK: Ratan Tata is one of the world's most well regarded business leaders. He has the soul of an engineer. He's always looking for solutions to the world's problems that are elegant, compassionate, and sustainable. We are so excited to have him partner with us at Cornell Tech. DAN HUTTENLOCHER: Cornell Tech and TCS are both very involved with public education, K12 education, helping improve what students are learning today for that digital world of tomorrow. MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG: Cornell Tech is an investment in the future of New York City. And our goal was to create a global technology hub that would help students become entrepreneurs. MARYANNE GILMARTIN: Under a single roof a billion ideas ought to be launched from this location, and perhaps a model for how buildings ought to be built in the innovation era. DAN HUTTENLOCHER: It's really a great honor to have him and his name gracing this building. Tata as an innovator, the Tata Innovation Center, and TCS as an incredibly innovative company.
